Curious George Goes to the Beach ~ Beach Day!!

Photobucket

Curious George Goes to the Beach

Margaret & H.A. Rey

Summary: One hot summer day, George and the man with the yellow hat go to the beach. What fun George has at the beach! What fun he has feeding the seagulls! It's fun, that is, until they fly away with something valuable and George must find a clever way to save the day.

A Day at the Beach

Supplies:

  • Sand (we live in FL so we went to the beach)
  • Sand toys
  • Sunscreen, hats, swimsuits, rashguards, etc Smile

Head out to the beach, park or sand box in your back yard and have fun playing in the sand. Make castles, pies and have fun burying each other in the sand. Don’t forget to play in the water if you can.

And I promise nap/bedtime will be a breeze after some time out in the sun. Winking smile

Beach Music ~ Slippery Fish

One of the things that my boys really love about the beach is getting to look for all the different animals. Usually we only see dolphins, seagulls, and jellyfish, but that doesn’t stop us from looking for sharks and whales!

Here’s a song that my boys love called “Slippery Fish”. I tried to get them to sing on camera but they refused, so you’re stuck with me.

Lyrics:

Slippery fish, slippery fish, swimming in the water,
Slippery fish, slippery fish, swimming in the water

Gulp, Oh, no! It’s been eaten by an…

Octopus, octopus, swimming in the water
Octopus, octopus, swimming in the water

Gulp Oh, no! It’s been eaten by a…

Tuna fish, tuna fish, swimming in the water,
Tuna fish, tuna fish, swimming in the water

Gulp Oh, no! It’s been eaten by a…

Great big shark, great big shark, swimming in the water,
Great big shark, great big shark, swimming in the water

Gulp, Oh, no! It’s been eaten by a…

Big fat whale, big fat  whale, swimming in the water,
Big fat whale, big fat whale, swimming in the water
Gulp! Oh, no! I have a tummy ache!

Last week I shared the beach mural that the boys worked on. This week I would like to share some of the fun things that we added to our mural: handprint crabs, handprint fish, and seaweed with Do-A-Dot markers. The boys also drew in people, a sand castle, sea gulls, a stingray, a cooler of food and I added the umbrella.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some activities to go along with the beach/ocean theme from this book. Today’s craft is to re-create a beach scene. Next week I’ll be sharing a few extra things that we added to ours, but you don’t have to do them all. Just have fun! This is a great family craft and even the smallest child can help.

How to Make a Beach Mural

Supplies:

  • Paint
  • Paper Roll or Construction Paper (for a smaller picture)

  1. Paint the sky, sand and water on your sheet of paper (we added glitter to our paint so that it would sparkle)

2.    Let dry (we went to the park for an hour to avoid the temptation to touch)

3.   Once dry, decorate the scene however you like. We made a few extra things {stay tuned to see what we added next week!!!}. I promise it will be fun!!

Come back next week for some more fun go-along ideas for the book Curious George Goes to the Beach!
