Terrific Tot Sites ~ Diapers to Diplomas

This week we’re featuring Beth from Diapers to Diplomas as our Terrific Tot Site. Beth is mom to twin boys Owen and Eli who are 26 months old. She is also mom to a new little one, Garrett. Lately Beth and the boys have been working on their ABC’s together, but they’ve also done some other fun things. Here are just a few ideas to get you started.

The boys sprinkled colored sugar on a picture that was outlined in glue….

Color matching using pipe cleaner circles…

Beth made a puzzle for the boys using foam for the puzzle pieces and a cardboard piece as the back and velcro to attach the pieces.

Cup and colored stick matching…

image
Beth made some of the CUTEST felt fish for her boys…

and then also some sea creature magnets with the felt leftovers.

She also made a most amazing felt ABC book…you need to check out the entire book….

What boys wouldn’t love stamping with Cool Whip on the table using shape sorter pieces? A MUCH lovelier alternative to shaving cream!

image
Love this simple idea for creating a ‘puzzle’ by tracing small board books that your little one has…

Be sure to stop by and visit Beth at Diapers to Diplomas and say hi to her while you are browsing around. She has some wonderful ideas to share with you all!

Terrific Tot Sites ~ Tot School Highlights

Every Sunday Carisa hosts a feature on her other blog called Tot School. If you are one who doesn't know that, you can go here to read more about it! She has over 60 moms joining up weekly, so there are plenty of wonderful resources and ideas to find.

This week we’re highlighting Annette from The Life of a Pastor’s Wife. She is a mom of two tots ~ Isaac (30 months) and Miriam (13 months). Here are a few of the fun things that she has been doing at home with her tots.

Pipe cleaner and clothespin matching was a big hit. Issac has to match the correct color of pipe cleaner to the clothespin with the same colored paint chip. A great fine motor activity too…

And they double as bracelets…

image

Stickers are always a hit!

image

Annette found a great mini ABC foam alphabet at the Dollar Tree and let Issac match up the letters to an alphabet printable Carisa put together.

image

This penny drop idea came from another Tot School Mom, Nichole, but great ideas need to be shared. Cut a slit in the top of a plastic container and let your little one have fun dropping the coins in from one jar to another.

image

My favorite idea from her though, is Tot School in a Bag! When Annette knew they would be gone for a few days, she packed a bag full of activities for her kids to keep their routine going {and the kids occupied}.

This week we’re highlighting one of our writers, Carissa from My Life on a Taffy Pull. Carissa writes for our Get Real With God feature on Sundays and is a mom of 6 wonderful children. Her youngest, Laffy Taffy, is 32 months old and the focus of her Tot School time.

Laffy Taffy was a little younger here, but when he was bored sorting bears by color, he had a lot of fun using a spoon to transfer the bears to containers.

image
If you need an idea for your sensory table, how about using flour and vehicles ~ it would definitely make great vehicle tracks!

image
While Laffy Taffy isn’t doing dishes here {he’s using an ice cream scoop to tranfer snow}, it reminds me that sometimes the simplest activities can be so much fun for tots! Pull up a stool and let your little one wash the dishes or some toys for fun!

image
Carisa has a great suggestion for board games you find that might have things on them you don’t like {wizards or genies, etc….}. Use a Sharpie marker to color over the images. A great idea for those yard sale and thrift store finds!!

image
Another great sensory table idea ~ use a spray bottle with colored water and fill the table with snow or even shaved/chipped ice.

image
Don’t forget those tweezers and pom poms! You can sort by color or size, count and build fine motor skills all at the same time!

She and her family have lived in England for the last five years, serving as missionaries. Here are a few of the fun activities that she does with her daughter:

Putting bracelets on a toilet paper holder {see all the things you can reuse educationally?}.

image
Stringing beads on pipecleaners.

image

Making up color trays with items from around the house.

image

Using marbles with a gumball machine.

image

This week I’d like to introduce you to Dawn from Our Little Monkeys {her kiddos are even cuter than her header!}. She is a mom to two little monkeys, Alexander {28 months and the star of Tot School} and Maxwell {8 months}.

Since Alex loves pizza, Dawn did a theme with him all about pizza. She made some cute pizza alphabet printables to go along with the theme and you’ll have to check out her post to download them!

They match colored monkeys to similar colored shapes in a file folder game.

image
Sorting Curious George by size during their ‘M is for Monkey’ week

image
Matching foam numbers to numbers on other objects…

image
Dawn saved some Easter egg dying cups and Alexander spent time sorting colored chips into their matching containers ~ love how she repurposed an item for Tot School!

image
Matching ladybugs to their correct leaves during their “L is for Ladybug’ week….

image
and building a ladybug by rolling numbers…

image
They even made this cute peek-a-boo barn craft during a farm theme week!
