Once Upon a Book ~ Big Red Barn...FARM week 1

Photobucket

Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown Summary: By the big red barn In the great green field, There was a pink pig Who was learning to squeal. There were horses and sheep and goats and geese--and a jaunty old scarecrow leaning on his hoe. And they all lived together by the big red barn.

After reading the Big Red Barn we made our own farm play mat...

Farm PlayMat

Need:

  • Foamboard (we used folding kind)
  • Green, Blue and Gray paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Painters Tape

To Make:

Tape off a section of the foamboard for your pond

Paint the taped off section Blue and the the rest of the foam board green for your pasture. After it dries peel off the tape and add your Grey rocks to border your pond. Now its ready for your farm animals, farm house (my girls just wanted the animals no barn)

If you don't have a barn, fashion one with a box painted red, cut out some doors and windows and you can make a silo using a pringles can covered with red construction paper.

Old McDonald Had A Farm Feltboard:

Print off the sheets either in color or B&W and have LO help you color them. Make them into feltboard pieces by gluing a square of sandpaper on the back of each. Or glue a magnet on the back and make them magnetic for the fridge. Or make them into a book!

HERE WE GO ROUND THE BIG RED BARN

tune of "...Round the Mulberry Bush"

Here we go round the big red barn, the big red barn, the big red barn

Here we go round the big red barn so early in the morning.

This is the way we milk the cows, milk the cows, milk the cows

This is the way we milk the cows so early in the morning.

This is the way we feed the chickens, feed the chickens, feed the chickens

This is the way we feed the chickens so early in the morning.

** Continue with other farm chores: chop wood, mow hay, slop pigs, plant corn, etc.**
