Get Real with God ~ Jehovah Jireh

We had a really wonderful thing happen to us this past week. It still sets me in a state of awe when I think about it. It all started with my almost 15 year old…he thinks Craig’s List is hilarious and loves to find all the strange ads and share them with the rest of the family. He also loves all things farm-ish and longs for the day when he has a flock of chickens to call his own. One day as he was reading through the FREE page, he found a lady giving away 5 gallon buckets of food. HUH? Food like: wheat, beans, peas. So, on a whim, my husband called her to see if her ad was for real, because more than once we’ve called and it’s been a joke or a mistake. But this lady was for real and she invited my husband and son out to look over what she had.

The story is that she was the ring-leader in her churches Y2K preparations and she was moving and didn’t want to take all that food with her. According to the phone call and the ad, we were expecting a few 5 gallon buckets. Well, look what she gave us!The first thing we did was share! How can keep all of that! God gave it to us so freely, and we have nothing. So we tithed off the food! Funny right? But it was wonderful! In these buckets are dried onions, split peas, peas, red, black and white beans, red wheat berries, soy beans (my son is saving those for his chickens), quick oats and there’s probably something I’m forgetting, but that’s a lot!!
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore, do not worry, saying, ‘what shall we eat?’ or ‘what shall we drink?’ or ‘what shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6: 25-34

How can my faith grow if I never have to have faith? Wow! I’m still in awe of God’s love toward us and His provision for us. I can take Him at His word. And so can you!
Still growing,

P.S. In case you didn't know...our family has been unemployed for over a year(16 months to be exact), we've not qualified for any government help (yet) and are patiently waiting for the Lord to answer our prayers. And He does every day, just not always in the way we expect! :o)

What a wonderful blessing! I feel ya - my husband is self-employed and I'm a SAHM and this past year has been rough to say the least. God does provide in so many ways!!

What an amazing story of how God truly is our provider! Who would've ever thought that this could've been on craig's list?!

BTW... I am praying for your family. It seems like after 16 months of no work you would qualify for something?!

Amazing is the love of God!

We were unemployed for 11 months but did qualify for some gov't help (we are in Canada and had just had a baby, so we were able to get some parental leave).

Praying something changes for you and your family soon.
