Little Cloud by Eric Carle
Summary: Little Cloud drifts through the sky over a little town, changing his shape as he pleases ~ into a sheep, an airplane, a shark, trees, a rabbit, a hat, and eventually a clown. Finally, he huddles together with the other clouds to form a big cloud begins to pour rain on the little town.
Bible Verse
Explain how God is not like the little cloud. While the cloud changes, the Bible tells us that Jesus never changes! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever! Hebrews 13:8
Motor Skills
The little boys used tongs to pick up cotton balls and blue pom poms. They put the balls and poms into an egg tray.
Craft
We used cotton balls to make some of the cloud shapes in the book!
Math
We counted the cotton ball clouds and pretended they were clouds drifting by!
Science
We discussed a little about how clouds fill up with water and make rain. We also took some time to gaze at the different shapes that the clouds made in the sky.
Art
The boys used cotton balls dipped in paint to make clouds.
They also used did some Q-tip painting on Little Cloud trace & color downloads from Making Learning Fun. {In the left painting, little cloud is a hat. On the right, little cloud is a tree!}
Snack
For a fun snack idea, have your little one help measure and mix to make these light and fluffy clouds!
Games
We had a cloud blowing race. The little boys each had a straw and cotton ball. They raced to see who could blow their cloud across the hall first. This can be quite a task for little ones!
Song
Floating Cloud {tune: "Frere Jacque"}
Clouds are floating, clouds are floating,
Up so high, up so high,
Floating up above us, floating up above us,
In the sky, in the sky.

That's a great unit! I have this book & will definitely use your ideas of the cotton ball painting/gluing, and the cloud blowing race!
