It’s time to explore the world around us and have some fun determining what is magnetic and non-magnetic! My son loves to play with magnets and likes to walk around finding objects that are magnetic, so I decided to put together a tub of magnetic and non-magnetic items for him to sort.
You’ll Need:
- magnetic items ~ lock, paper clip, spoon, bracelet, magnetic marble, key, nut and bolt, and a bell
- non-magnetic items ~ clothes pin, small ball, plastic bolt, domino, foam heart, button, sea shell, and a rock
- magnetic wand
- two small baskets to sort items
- non-magnetic and magnetic label
- plastic bin
- cotton balls (snow)
I added the “snow” to the bin and hid the magnetic and non-magnetic items. I put a label at each basket and let my son start searching and sorting the items.
As he pulled each item from the bin he would tell me if it was magnetic or non-magnetic and put it in the correct basket.
