Crawling Ants
I don’t normally like ants in my house, but these yummy ants are allowed any time!
The Book Before You Cook…
The Ants Go Marching from Scholastic, Inc.
Summary: A fun new version of the popular song that will help little ones practice counting. Includes lyrics and music at the end of the book.
When It’s Time to Cook…
You’ll Need:
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup dry milk powder
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 wheat germ
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 cup coconut
- To Make:
- Combine all of the dry ingredients together in a large bowl and mix well. Note: I like to grind up the rolled oats in our coffee grinder so they aren’t so bulky.
- Add in honey. Mix well.
- Shape the mixture into small 1” balls and put three balls together to form the body of an ant.
- Use the chow mein noodles to make legs and antennae for your ants.
Have fun counting the parts of the ants body and counting how many ants you make! Hope you enjoy this cooking activity with your little one! To see more featured books and activities, click here!

I love this idea! We are learning letter A, so it's perfect for making ants.
What cute, fun and educational activities for grandparents and their grandchildren! I'd love to give this a try with my granddaughters. Thanks for the fun idea.
