Once Upon a Book ~ The Hello, Goodbye Window

Photobucket

In honor of Grandparents Day September 13th

Summary: Tells the story of a little girl who finds a magic gateway in the kitchen window of her grandparents' house, and the voyage of discovery she takes.

Circle Time - God Created Grandparents {poem}

(You could also make this into a card by printing off the poem add adding a picture of your LO with the grandparents)

When God created grandparents
the world was truly blessed
with all the special joys
that make a family happiest...
For grandparents know how to do
the things that warm a heart,
They touch our lives with loving care
right from the very start...
They show that they believe in us
and all we're dreaming of...
When God created grandparents,
He blessed our lives with love.

Art Time - Homemade Coasters

Supplies needed:

- White tiles from a home improvement store {4 per set of grandparents}
- Permanent markers
- Glue
- Foam or felt pieces

Directions:

1. Have your LO color and decorate the tiles with the permanent markers.

2. Glue a piece of foam or felt onto the bottom of the tiles so that they don't scratch the table.

Language Time - 'What I love about You'card

Make a card of all the things your LO loves about their Grandparents. If they are little you might need to prompt them with some things.

Science Time - Picture Family Tree

Draw a big tree on a big piece of posterboard and have LO color it. Now add pictures through out the tree of your LO's Family, making the grandparents on top (or if your LO is lucky enough to have Great Grandparents alive have them on top, then the grandparents!). Now you have a picture Family Tree!

More Ideas

- Have the grandparents over for a quick and easy brunch that your LO can help make: Muffins, Hot Tea, Coffee, Quiche etc...

- Ask the grandparents that live out of town to make a video tape of themselves reading some of your LO's favorite stories! Either mail the books to them or give them a list of books to find at their local library. They can also record it on an audio tape or even upload it to a youtube channel so you can watch it online at any time.

We just added this book to our library a few weeks ago. Love the poem for Grandparent's day!
